Cutlery
Disposal Options
Metal cutlery may be donated to an organization for reuse such as the HOPE (Helping Overcome Poverty's Effects) resale store, Marion's Place. All plastic cutlery should be disposed of as trash (plastic cutlery is smaller than the minimum two inches in two dimensions required for items to be recyclable). Biodegradable cutlery should also be disposed of as trash, even if it is labeled "compostable," because only food waste is accepted in the District's food scrap recycling program. Many types of biodegradable cutlery simply do not break down in compost piles as advertised.
