Yard Waste
This item is banned from disposal in the trash in Vermont by state law and requires special recycling, which is separate from curbside, or blue-bin, recycling.
Disposal Options
Loads of leaves, grass clippings, pine needles, garden waste, small amounts of sod, and other non-woody yard and garden debris are accepted at the District Transfer Station for the fee listed below. Twigs in the yard waste should be no larger in diameter than a pencil. Bags must be emptied of their contents. Residents may check with their town clerk or the local fire warden for restrictions on open burning of yard waste.
Leaf and yard debris may also be accepted seasonally (between April 1 and December 15) at your town drop-off. Contact the drop-off operator for pricing.
Leaf and yard waste can also be composted at home.
